Welcome to Room Helpers

Our classroom runs best with many helping hands. See what the class needs, pick a time that fits your week, and add it to your calendar. Fewer messages for the teacher, and for you.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us your status

Every volunteer needs DPS approval each school year. Tell us if you're approved when you join, or apply and update it later.

  2. Step 2

    Pick a time

Open spots have a green outline. Choose what fits your week, from reading to the class to a closet clean-out.

  3. Step 3

    Sign up in one tap

That's it. Your name is on it, and you can see everything you've signed up for in one place.

  4. Step 4

    Add it, or change it

Add it to your own calendar. If plans change, cancel with one tap and the room parent can fill the spot.

Room parent or teacher? You can add tasks, repeat them each week, put a parent on a task you arranged in person, and send the front desk a list of visitors.

How Room Helpers works

Our classroom runs better with parent help, and the teacher shouldn't have to chase it by text and email. Room Helpers keeps it in one place: what the class needs, who is coming, and when.

Coordinate volunteers for the class without long message threads.

  1. See what the class needs. The class calendar shows the school day in time blocks (Day, Week or Month). On the page you also get Still needs helpers for the next two weeks and Recent cancellations, so you can spot gaps without chasing messages.
  2. Add a task or an open time. Tap + Add next to a time block (the time fills in for you), or use Add a task or open time. Choose how many helpers you need. To repeat it, pick Repeat weekly; holidays and workdays are skipped. On early release days the time shows as to be announced.
  3. Put someone on a task you arranged elsewhere. On a task, choose Add a parent. Pick a parent from the class, or add someone by first name if they have no account. Parents who aren't DPS approved can't be added, and for a guest you confirm their approval yourself.
  4. Change or remove a task. Edit opens a window. The name and details change for every week of a repeating task, while the day, times and number of helpers can change for just that day or all weeks. People already signed up see the change in the app, so let them know about it. Take off removes one parent.
  5. Send the visitor list to the front desk. Reports lists who is coming, when, for which class, plus open spots and cancellations. Use Copy for email to paste it as a table, download a spreadsheet, or print it.
  6. Who sees what. You see volunteers' real names. Other parents only see a name if that parent chose to share it. Parents tell us their own DPS status when they join. The visitor report marks anyone Kate hasn't verified, so the front desk can check them. Ask Kate if someone's status needs a change.

Privacy

Parents' names and emails are hidden from other parents unless they choose to share them. Teachers and room parents can see who has signed up. No student names are stored here, so please don't type one into a note.
